The unique and fascinating course of the IAAF World Race Walking Team Championships was designed by the FIDAL, the IAAF and the Rome City. The start is located in front of the Arch of Constantine in an area which will host the Call Room 2 and a small TV Compound used for the television production.
After the start the athletes will walk along a stretch of Via San Gregorio until Piazza di Porta Capena, where they will walk along the service road next to the Baths of Caracalla (passing in front of the FAO Building) and then they will get into the circuit made out of the three carriageways of Via delle Terme di Caracalla. The 2 km four-lane loop circuit is measured and certified.
The Junior athletes will cover the 10 km distance by repeating the 1km sub- circuit made out of the first two of the four lanes of the main loop circuit. After completing the ninth lap, the walkers will leave the circuit by walking along the stretch which links to the the Nando Martellini Stadium and will reach the main home straight. In the 20 km race the athletes will walk along one lap of the same 1 km lap covered by the Junior athletes before walking along the 2 km loop for nine laps and entering the Nando Martellini Stadium. In the 50 km race athletes will repeat the circuit 24 times.
The course will be marked by 6 kilometres of barriers and 1000 traffic cones. Inside the Nando Martellini Stadium the many facilities needed for the organization of the event will be set up: the Team Tents, the Press Centre with 50 working desks, the Mixed Zone, the Press Stand with 30 working desks, the Hospitality Area, the Helth and Antidoping Facilities, TIC, the Call Room 1, the Offices of the Technical Partners (Seiko, Delta Tre and the AMS), the Area for the coordination of the volunteers and the Crowd Area.
The main TV Compound will be set up in the parking area of the service road of Via delle Terme di Caracalla which runs along the Stadium, which will be directly linked through a passage which will be made purposely for this event.
